Make a Splash: Hosting the Ultimate Summer Pool Party

There’s something about a summer pool party that never goes out of style. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, hosting friends or family, or looking for an excuse to soak up the sunshine, a well-planned pool party creates memories that last long after summer ends.

The best pool parties feel effortless—but behind every relaxed afternoon is thoughtful planning. Here’s a few thoughts and ideas to think about while planning:

Theme - A theme is always a personal favorite of mine. It instantly makes your party feel more intentional and fun for your guests. For this particular party, here’s some of my favorites:

  • Tropical Luau

  • Coastal Chic

  • Barbie Pool Party

  • Retro 80’s Pool Day

  • Mediterranean Escape

  • White Party

  • Sunset Fiesta

Your theme can be subtle or over the top and extra for your invitations, decor, menu and music.

Keep Guests Comfortable - Summer heat can be intense, especially if adult beverages are also involved. Think beyond just the pool to keep your guests cool and comfy. Here’s some ideas:

  • Provide plenty of shaded seating

  • Sunscreen

  • Bug spray or citronella candles

  • Cold towels (put them in a cooler)

  • Ice water (readily available in dispenser or bottles)

Small details make a huge difference and shows your guests you thought of everything.

Elevate the Food - Take something simply and elevate the taste or display!

  • Taco or slider bar

  • Fresh fruit display (go crazy with some fruit dips like honey yogurt dip)

  • Charcuterie grazing table

  • Lemonade station

  • Variety of ice cream sandwiches/popsicles

Hiring a food truck or bartender can also make hosting much more enjoyable since you’ll spend less time cooking and more time with your guests.

Plan Entertainment - Not everyone wants to swim, or swim the entire time. Offer a few activities like:

  • Yard games

  • Pool volleyball or basketball

  • Card games (bonus points if cards are waterproof)

  • S’mores around a fire pit if party extends to the evening

Options keeps everyone engaged throughout the event.

Don’t Forget the Details - The little things often have the biggest impact:

  • Extra towels

  • Clearly label drink station/coolers

  • Trash and recycling bins in convenient locations

  • First aid kit

  • Plenty of seats for guests

  • Little touches for ambience (flowers, candles, etc.)

Enjoy the Party!

Hosting should be fun, not stressful. If you’re spending the day worrying about setup, timing, refilling food, or cleaning up, you’re missing out on the event you’ve worked hard to create!

At Wendt Events, I help bring your vision to life so you an actually enjoy your own party. From styling and setup to coordinating details behind the scenes, my goal is to make your event feel effortless—for you and your guests.

Summer memories happen when you’re involved, not running around managing everything else.
